Collections, the design and materials initiative housed within Turtle Labs, is entering its final phase before commercialisation, built around a reverse supply chain that turns fish waste into luxury impact bags.
Collections traces back to the family’s original 2021 commitment to introduce sustainable products built on smart materials, showcasing new design talent alongside the family’s broader research and development work. Since then, the initiative has been quietly developing a process that recovers skins and by-products from the fish industry, material that would otherwise go to waste, and transforms it into a durable, leather-alternative material fit for luxury goods.
Each piece is designed in collaboration with artisans working in traditional leather and textile crafts, with the explicit goal of honouring the techniques and cultural heritage those crafts represent rather than replacing them. The result is a supply chain that runs in the opposite direction to how luxury materials are usually sourced: starting from waste, and working backwards to a finished, museum-quality object.
“We didn’t want a material that imitated luxury. We wanted a supply chain that deserved to make it.”
Turtle LabsCollections is expected to move from pilot to commercial availability later this year, with further details, including the first collection of bags, to be announced through G&G’s usual channels.
